DeLonghi ECC155: Reader-submitted review by Jennifer Smith
I purchased the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine about 6 months back, and during this period I have been
quite happy with my purchase.
Yes, there are some flaws (which I’ll get to in a minute) but overall this machine has been
perfect for my family.
I would consider myself quite an amateur when it comes to making espresso. My previous machine was a steam
driven model, and I found it quite difficult to control. In addition, the espresso brewed tasted nothing like café
espresso. It was quite weak, I tried different methods to make the coffee stronger but nothing worked.
Finally, I started to do some more research online. It turns out that steam driven machines are quite unpopular,
they all have the same problems as mine and there is no way you can make really good strong coffee using a steam
driven machine.
So, at this point I decided to sell my old steam driven machine on ebay and buy a new pump-driven espresso
machine.
The next step was to do research on what would be a good pump driven machine. I read some fairly good reviews
about the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine, and as this website says as well, it seems to be the most
popular budget espresso machine. I wasn’t about to fork over a lot of cash for one of
those high end coffee makers as
I just needed something that would get the job done, ie create a good espresso easily.
I have found just that with the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine. It makes a nice good espresso with a lovely
crema. The taste is just as strong as I like and I have no trouble at all handling the machines.
So, let me start off with what I don’t like about this machine. First of all, this espresso machine has a built
in plastic tamper that is no good, it’s hard to put pressure on using it. If you get a machine with a plastic
tamper, I recommend you get a metal tamper to use instead. That’s what I did. Using the metal tamper, I can get the
job done perfectly.
I did read some consumer reviews of the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Machine that said that the steam wand was too
near the counter, but I did not think this was true.
One other thing I don’t like about this espresso coffee machine is that the coffee grounds basket design is not
that good. Initially, I would sometimes through the basket in the garbage when emptying the coffee pucks! This took
me a bit of time to get the hand of, not throwing in the basket, but I think any new user needs to be aware of how
the handle is not solidly fixed. I think if I had known this coming out of the gate I would have had an easier
time.
Now the positives. A major positive of this machine is the fact that the water reservoir is very easy to use –
easy to remove, easy to fill and holds the perfect amount of water for my needs.
Of course, the major positive of this machine is that it does just what I purchased it to do. It makes top
quality espresso every time, and I find it easy to use. It’s also quite affordable.
