So, back to the question at hand…:
What is the difference between an espresso maker and a single cup coffee
maker?

To answer your question, we first need to talk about the difference between espresso and regular coffee.
Espresso vs Coffee
Let’s start off first with what an espresso is. Espresso is a kind of coffee brewed when hot water is pressed
through tightly compacted coffee grounds, under very high pressure. This manner of brewing creates the “espresso”,
which is much stronger in flavour than regular coffee.
When you create a “shot” of espresso, you really create a lovely, condensed liquid with a crema layer on top.
This shot of espresso can be enjoyed on its own, or mixed with other components (usually milk) to create perfect
specialty drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos and more.
Espresso Coffee Machines vs Automatic Coffee Machine vs Single Cup Coffee Maker
Espresso coffee machines use a pressure system to create a “shot” of espresso, ie this is a coffee that is much
thicker and stronger in both density and taste.
A regular automatic coffee machine makes
normal coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, tea, etc.
A regular coffee maker is much easier to use.
An espresso maker is more complicated to use.
Now, when it comes to the single cup coffee
maker, these err towards the side of regular coffee makers, in that they do not create pressurized espresso.
They are simple to use, and you can use them to create a variety of coffee flavours.
Hopefully, this answers your question!
